It’s carnival time in the city

The carnival will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. everyday until Saturday.

The Madison Police Department is holding its first annual MPD Foundation Spring Carnival.

Citizens are invited to experience rides, games food and fun in their own backyard.

Proceeds from the carnival will benefit the foundation, which in turn, benefits the police department.

The foundation was started by local families and police officers to not only provide opportunities for the public to become more acquainted with officers, but to also help provide insurance polices to officers who are hurt or killed while on the job.

“This job can be stressful to the police officers and their families,” said Lt. John Stringer, “so the foundation is a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of the city and surrounding areas to come out and have a good time in an environment where they wouldn’t normally have the chance.”

Officers are volunteering their time to man stations and work concessions at the carnival, located in the parking lot of Old Time Pottery on Madison Blvd.

“What we are trying to do is acknowledge what the foundation does for us and the opportunities it provides for our families.”

The MPD Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports officers, their families and other efforts of the Madison Police Department.

To donate to the foundation, contact Sharon Monk at (256) 772-5675 or Officer Al Bryan at (256) 772-05689.
