Mayor’s executive assistant to leave position

After two and a half years as executive assistant to Mayor Paul Finley, Taylor Edge’s ride has come to an end.

Finley announced Edge’s resignation, effective May 20, at the May 9 city council meeting.

“My businesses and my employees need my full time focus and involvement,” Edge said. “Just as we have been forced to do in city government, tough decisions must be made. Leaving the mayor’s office has been one of the toughest.”

Edge is returning to work full time at the two businesses he owns, Rescue ONE Connector Boats, a specialty public safety boat manufacturing company and Tennessee Valley Marine, a retail outboard service center.

“If you’ve been associated with the mayor’s office, you know how hard a hit that is,” Finley said. “Taylor has been a part of thee success we’ve had in taking a vision and turning it into a reality. This council knows the number of projects he’s managed. I know God gave us Taylor Edge for two years to make sure our city was that much better.”

Edge was appointed by Finley in November of 2008. He has been primarily responsible for assisting in interdepartmental operations, community and intergovernmental relations, and information technology initiatives to make city government function more effectively for its citizens.

While Edge will be out of the day-to-day city government operations, he does still plan to be involved.

“I feel blessed and proud to be a small part of the progress that Mayor Finley and the city council have made in moving Madison forward over the past two years”, Edge said. “This tough decision is made easier knowing that our team has accomplished a majority of the agenda we promised the residents of Madison. I would not rule out a return to public service in the future.”
