Residents attempt to bring Kiwanis chapter to Madison
A group of Kiwanis Club of Huntsville members are on a mission to bring a chapter to the Madison area.
Ed Courtney, a Madison resident and currently the secretary for the Huntsville Kiwanis, said the organization is focused on providing aid in helping children become good citizens and providing leadership. He said Madison is a family-oriented city and is the perfect place for a Kiwanis club.
The group is hosting an orientation for interested Madison residents Tuesday, April 12, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m at the Holiday Inn in Madison. The orientation will present the club’s goals and mission of building better communities one child at a time.
“I’d like to have one in my own town to work with kids and schools,” Courtney said. “There are several members in Huntsville who are Madison residents.”
Courtney said Huntsville has about six Kiwanis clubs.
Courtney said they need at least 25 members to charter a Madison chapter.
“If you have an interest in supporting the youth in the community and wanting to give back and are service minded, we would really like you to come out to the meeting,” Courtney said.
