BJ drum line, color guard to compete

The Bob Jones drum line rehearse for the Madtown Throwdown, to be held March 12 at the school.

On March 12, The Bob Jones High School drum line and Winter Color Guard will march to the beat.

They will compete in the Madtown Throwdown, an indoor competition against schools from Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi.

“Although we’ve been competing in indoor drum line competitions for many years, this is our first year to host a competition,” said Assistant Band Director and Percussion Instructor Keith Anderson. “We have a great group of parent volunteers that have worked tirelessly to get ready for the competition. We’ve contacted vendors, local businesses, constantly fundraised and spread the word to make sure this event the best competition the competing groups have been to.”

The drum line’s theme will be “Freedom,” which will be told in four movements: speech, expression, religion and assembly.

Anderson said he expects around 750 people to attend the event.

Drum lines will be competing beginning at 1:30, and the color guard competition will begin at 5:00.  The event is open to the public and admission is $7.

Other area schools that will compete will be Sparkman High School (color guard and drum line) Buckhorn High School (color guard)

Decatur High School (color guard and drum line) and Bob Jones High School (color guard and drum line).

The drum line will be competing beginning at 1:30 p.m., and the color guard competition will begin at 5 p.m.  The event is open to the public and admission is $7.
