Helms not seeking school board reappointment, council accepting applications
Madison City Council representative Tim Holcombe announced Monday night that long-time Madison City Schools Board member Sue Helms will not seek reappointment when her term ends this year.
Helms has been with the city school board since it formed in 1998, and also served on the county school board as the city school’s representative prior to her term in Madison for a total of 17 years of service.
Helms ran for a state board position in the summer, but was defeated by Huntsville attorney Mary Scott Hunter in the Republican primary.
“I would encourage any and all Madison citizens to apply,” Holcombe said.
Unlike city council positions, school board appointments are not made by district or geographic regions.
Applications can be obtained at City Hall or through the city’s website MadisonAL.gov.
