Madison cheerleaders soar at Nationals
Madison City Schools have a huge reason to cheer.
The National High School Cheerleading Championship was held Feb. 12 and 13 in Orlando, Fla. and Madison squads took top honors.
The Bob Jones junior varsity squad won the National Championship for the first time.
“We’re so excited because we lost last year by ½ a point,” said Carmen Goode, school sponsor.
Discovery Middle School also set new records by winning the National Championship for the first time.
“This is our 1st win here at Discovery,” said Tamara Caudle, a teacher at Horizon Elementary, who has coached the squad for the past four years. “We’ve overcome a lot of hardships and our girls have worked so hard. We’re very excited about the win.”
The Bob Jones varsity squad finished second. They have won the varsity competition for the past five years.
The Liberty Middle School squad advanced to finals for the first time.
Caudle said Madison cheerleaders practice very hard.
“I think our training sets us apart,” Caudle said.
