City Council interviews four District 7 candidates
The Madison City Council held interviews Wednesday night in an effort to fill the District 7 vacancy left by then-President Bill Holtzclaw, who stepped down to take on his newly elected role as State Senator for District 2.
Gordon Brown, Amanda Holland, Ronica Ondocsin and Derrick Rains each took their turn Wednesday interviewing for the position.
The council is expected to make fill the District 7 seat at the next meeting Monday, Dec. 20.
Here is background info on each candidate:
-Brown is a 20-year Army veteran with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue and an MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology. Brown is married to Laura, and he has two daughters, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. Brown looks to improve the city’s infrastructure, widen Hughes and Balch Roads and replace the half-cent sales tax with increased property taxes.
-Holland holds a doctorate in chiropractic and a master’s degree in sports health science from Life University. She is married to husband Stephen and the couple has three sons. Holland is the secretary of the Madison City Council of PTAs. As an active member in the Madison/Huntsville community, Holland believes Madison’s success is vital to North Alabama’s future.
-Ondocsin holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and previously worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Space and Strategic Defense. Command. Ondocsin has been married to Bill for 18 years, and the couple has two children. Ondocsin would like to see more improvements in the historic downtown, while also widening Old Madison Pike and Gooch Road.
-Rains is the director of operations for B.G. Smith and Associates and holds an engineering design and a master’s in management of technology from Murray State University. Rains and wife Tina have two sons. Rains would like to continue to improve the city’s infrastructure, while also working hand-in-hand with surrounding municipalities.
