Mayor update meeting revitalized for 2011
The last Mayor’s Update meeting for the year was held Friday, Nov. 19, at 7 a.m. in Ivey’s Restaurant on Sullivan Street.
Mayor Paul Finley met with Ed Collins, president of The Madison Homeowners Association Network; Taylor Edge, Finley’s executive assistant, Rick Honea, Madison city’s court clerk; and Lee Weaver, police major, to talk about general city concerns such as driver safety.
Finley said the meetings are to ensure that the community has a chance to voice their opinions and concerns directly to the government.
He said starting in 2011, the update meetings will be revitalized and he will go to the citizens to meet, instead of having a set place where people have to meet him.
“This type of meeting has run its course,” Finley said. “We’re now going to go to events where lots of Madison residents are, such as Dublin Park, Palmer Park and the business expo.”
The meeting is one of three elements of the Access Madison Initiative, a measure Finley implemented that also includes a redesign of the city’s website and weekly meetings where he meets one-on-one with residents to discuss any concerns or opinions they may have about the city.
The plans for the new meeting places and times in 2011 have not yet been finalized, but Finley said the meetings will open a more direct communication among citizens.
