Hundreds turn out for free flu shots
Hundreds of people turned out Tuesday morning, as the Madison County Commission sponsored a free flu shot clinic at the Madison City Hall.
Staff and nurses of the Madison County Health Department coordinated and administered the flu shots.
There will be another clinic from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church located at 1919 Brandon Town Road N.W. in Huntsville.
Ruth Choha, an administrative assistant to County Commissioner Faye Dyer, said Dyer directs the clinic each year, and 500-600 people take advantage of the free vaccines.
The shot is an all-in-one flu vaccine, which includes the H1N1 (swine flu).
The Madison County Commission encourages families to take advantage of these free shots since there are no plans to administer flu shots to students in schools like last year.
These flu shots are offered free to all citizens on a first-come, first-served basis.
Seniors are asked to bring their Medicare card for state reimbursement for the cost of the vaccine.
The clinic asks that you not come to these clinics if you have a bad cold or cough or fever, you have guillain-barre syndrome, a severe egg allergy or in the past have had an allergic reaction to a flu shot.
