AARP hosts breakfast at Applebee’s

AARP pancake breakfast

Madison AARP fundraising chairman Charles Wallace said the annual pancake breakfast is the group's largest fundraiser of the year, benefitting local charities.

Want a good, inexpensive pancake breakfast that, in turn, helps out the local community?

Then come out to Applebee’s Sept. 11 from 7-10 a.m., as the Madison AARP will be hosting its 6th-annual pancake breakfast.

For $5, guests can enjoy a pancake breakfast with sausage and juice served by a local public official, including Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning, Madison City Council members Jerry Jennings and Tommy Overcash, Madison Fire Chief Ralph Cobb, State Sens. Tom Butler and Arthur Orr, State Reps. Mac McCutcheon and Mike Ball, Better Business Bureau President Michelle Mason and Edward Jones’ Noble Harber.

The event serves as the main fundraiser of the year for the Madison AARP, said fundraising chairman Charles Wallace.

Wallace said the proceeds from the pancake breakfast go towards charities such as Meals on Wheels, Toys for Tots and the Madison Senior Center.

Wallace said the AARP spreads the money out so that several organizations benefit from the fundraiser.

“Our mission is to serve, not to be served,” Wallace said. “It’s important for us to help anyone that needs help.”

In addition to helping local charities, the AARP will also be collecting school supplies the day of the breakfast, and those supplies will be distributed to local schools.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from any AARP member or at the door the day of the event.

For more information, call Wallace at 256-722-0201.
