Madison Street Festival to crown inaugural queen

The Madison Street Festival will crown a queen at this year’s festival, as the inaugural Street Festival Pageant will be held Oct. 2.

The pageant is open to girls grades 9-11 with at least a “C” average who are residents of Madison.

Each girl will be required to write a 100-word minimum essay on what the Street Festival means to them, and the essay will count for 25 percent of each contestant’s score.

Judging will be based on upon natural facial beauty, grooming poise, personality and overall appearance.

The Queen will serve as the teen liaison on the Street Festival Committee for the following year, as the hostess for the festival and pageant and as the grand marshal for the 2011 Street Festival Parade.

Other rules and regulations for the pageant include:

-Must be single female, never married, never divorced, and never pregnant or may not become pregnant or married during reign.

-Sunday best attire only- no Formal or Pageant attire allowed. Clothing must be age appropriate and should fit the contestant well. Attire will not be based on expense or elaborateness of design.

-Judging will be based upon natural facial beauty, grooming poise, personality and overall

appearance.

-Entrant agrees the judge’s decision is final.

-All contestants, parents and patrons are to behave in a friendly, respectful manner. Hostility and rudeness will not be tolerated.

-During the announcing of the contestants, the last names of the contestants will not be used.

While on stage, the only announced things will be: fist name, age, eye color, grade, hobbies/interest, ambitions, sports, etc.
