Government Executive has bestowed a new title on the city of Huntsville — “The New Federal City” — in a cover story for the magazine’s August issue.

Government Executive is a biweekly business magazine and a daily website serving senior executives and managers in the federal government’s departments and agencies.

The article details the city and Redstone Arsenal’s growth, especially in dealing with the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission’s move of nearly 5,000 jobs from Washington D.C. to Redstone.

In the article, reporter Katherine Peters interviews several families who moved to the area and several key players who made the move happen.

The article came about when Mayor Tommy Battle, Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Governmental Affairs Mike Ward and Chamber Communication Director John Southerland met with Government Executive representatives in April during the chamber’s annual visit to Washington D.C.

Peters later visited Huntsville to interview people for the story.
