Bob Jones, Madison Academy ranked in ASWA preseason poll

Bob Jones High School and Madison Academy will each start the 2010 season ranked No. 8 in their respective classifications, as the Alabama Sports Writers Association preseason poll was released Aug. 1.

Bob Jones will start the season ranked No. 8 in Class 6A after finishing with an 11-2 record in 2009 and an appearance in the quarterfinals.

The Hoover Bucs, who ousted the Patriots in the third round of the playoffs en route to another state championship, will start the season No. 1 in 6A.

The Patriots will play four teams in 2010 that received votes in the preseason ASWA poll, including No. 1 Hoover Oct. 29 and No. 6 Spain Park Sept. 24. The Patriots will also play Florence Sept 10. and Fairhope in a preseason game Aug. 19.

Bob Jones will open the 2010 season on the road at Georgia powerhouse North Gwinnett High in a regionally televised game.

Madison Academy will also start the 2010 season ranked No. 8 in Class 3A after finishing the 2009 season with a 12-1 record and an appearance in the quarterfinals.

The Leeds Green Wave, who derailed the Mustangs’ perfect season, will start the season No. 1 in 3A.

The Mustangs will play two other teams that received votes in the preseason poll, including Plainview Sept. 24 and Pisgah Oct. 8.
