Runoffs set for July 13

Turnout is expected to be light as Madison County voters head to the polls July 13 to decide party representatives for an array of offices, including a statewide post being sought by a local school board member.
Madison City School Board member Sue Helms faces Huntsville attorney Mary Scott Hunter for the Republican nomination for the District Eight seat on the state school board. The winner will face Huntsville Democrat Mary Ruth Yates.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Identification, such as a driver’s license or military ID card, is required to cast a ballot.
Other races on the ballot will be:
• Top race for Repub-licans is the runoff between Robert Bentley and Bradley Byrne to garner the GOP gubernatorial nomination. The winner faces Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, who beat Artur Davis in the June primary.
• Clay Scofield and Don Spurlin are seeking the Republican nomination for the State Senate District Nine seat.
• Dorman Grace faces John McMillan for the Republican nomination for the Agriculture Commissioner post.
• Twinkle Andress Ca-vanaugh and Stephen Evans are seeking the GOP nomination for Public Service Commission, Place One.
• There’s only one race on the Democratic side, as James Anderson faces Giles Perkins to be that party’s nominee for Alabama Attorney General.
