Discovery shooter to be tried as adult
The 14-year old boy accused of shooting and killing a classmate at Discovery Middle School in February will be tried as an adult.
Madison County District Judge Lynn Sherrod ruled Hammad Memon will be tried as an adult. Bond was later set at $75,000. Memon is being held on a suicide watch after being moved from the Neaves-Davis Juvenile Detention facility to the Madison County Jail.
Memon is accused of killing Todd Brown Feb. 5 as the two walked down the ninth grade hallway at Discovery Middle School.
If tried as a juvenile, Memon would face no more than seven years if convicted. If convicted as an adult, there will be no limit on the sentence and he would be placed with the adult prison population.
