Westminster DI team wins first place

By Staff
Rebecca Emmons Special to the Record
A Destination ImagiNation (DI) team from Westminster Christian Academy, Evangel Campus, recently won first place at the state DI competition at Discovery Middle School.
The win advances the team to DI global competition, to be held in Knoxville, Tenn. on May 21-25. The team competed in a challenge called ViDIo Adventure, in which they had to create a seeker that could complete three challenges, similar to a video game. They also had to create a skit to go along with the game that tied in current events from the United States and two other countries.
The team placed third at regional but, because of their hard work and determination, took home first place at the state competition.
The team is composed of students from Huntsville and Madison who attend Westminster Christian Academy. This is the first team from the Evangel Campus to advance to DI global finals in the six years the school has been participating.
Students on the team are sixth graders Jordan Cook, Stephanie Nix, Emma Green, Cole Bowden, Joe Lundy, and fourth graders Michael Blackwell and Caroline Campbell. Coaches for the team are Karen Boyd, a fourth grade teacher at Westminster and daughter Rebecca Emmons.
The team is planning a yard sale to raise funds for the trip on Saturday, May 17 at 1674 Longleaf Dr. NW in Huntsville.
To make a donation or for more information, please email Karen Boyd at karen.boyd@wca.pvt.k12.al.us.
