Rediscover Our Historic Neighborhoods

By Staff
The African-American Alliance Group (MAAG) will join thousands of individuals around the country in a nationwide celebration of the 32nd annual National Historic Week, May 5 -12.
In Madison, an all-day community event entitled "Restore, Rebuild, Rediscover Our Historic Neighborhoods and Communities" will be held on Monday, May 5, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Madison Municipal Complex. Refreshments will be provided.
The event will promote an awareness and understanding of African-American history and heritage, the importance of preserving African-American historic neighborhoods and communities, and educate local citizens about the community benefits of historic preservation.
Citizens will be able to network with other individuals and groups who have an interest in neighborhood revitalization and preservation. Educational information, brochures and pamphlets will be available.
Also, citizens will have an opportunity to give oral and video interviews that tell stories of the African-American way of life during the early years in Madison and Madison County.
There will be a designated area for citizens to contribute to the Veterans History Project where veterans will give oral interviews, documentary material information, such as branch of service, military rank, awards, metals, etc. relative to WW I, WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars.
If you or your organization would like to be involved, call (256) 430-5790.
