Madison County health workers get smallpox vaccination
Madison County is among four North Alabama counties – the first in Alabama – to take the small pox vaccination.
The State of Alabama began inoculating health care workers against smallpox last week. It is the intent to administer the vaccine to develop a protective group of health workers in case they are needed to respond to a case of smallpox disease. Officials say the vaccine is administered the same way it was more than 30 years ago, with two double-headed needles. The vaccinated drop is in the two parts of the needle.
UAH gets $20 million
Sen. Richard Shelby has announced that The University of Alabama in Huntsville will receive $20 million in federal funds.
The money will be used to pay for the design and construction of a new building that will house the school's engineering and science schools. Shelby said he expects to secure another $30 million in federal funds for the $60 million project.
