* Copies of the Madison County Record sold for 10 cents a copy. A year's subscription cost was $6.50 or $12 for two years. A one-year, out-of-county rate for the paper was $10.
* The four Madison County Commissioners in attendance at the "James Record Day" festivities were Robert Spears, Charles Stone, Tillman Hill and Woodrow Balch.
* Interstate completion was almost a reality on I-59 and I-65 near Birmingham and portions of rural Alabama. I-565 discussions continued for a spur that will link I-65 through the city of Huntsville.
* An arrest was made in the rash of air conditioner thefts in Madison. Subjects were caught trying to steal an air conditioner at St. Elizabeth Church on Perry Street. Johnny Hughes of Huntsville and Charles E. Draper of Huntsville were arrested.
* W. Frank Henley, manager of the Electronic Systems Engineering Division and Bernie Henirich, chief engineer of feature products of Chrysler Corporation in Huntsville, explained the features of a new fuel injection system to be installed in the all new Cordoba. The system will be installed in the 1981 Imperial as well.
* An ad in the Madison County Record from the Skycenter Hotel at the Huntsville Jetport called for a weekend getaway for $75 per couple. It featured free golf, swimming, sauna's, dinner in the Rib Cellar, free drink in the Cap N' Google Lounge, luxurious nights lodging, coffee in room, free newspaper, campaign brunch and a late checkout.
* National Car Rental advertised its weekend special at $3.95 per day or 10 cents a mile. You could get your car at the Huntsville Jetport
* All Huntsville and Madison County residents were invited to attend a campaign kick-off for Mike Gillespie, candidate for chairman of the Madison County Commission to be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Huntsville Hilton in downtown Huntsville.
* The Madison Parks and Recreation Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament was held. Winners were Emory Burton, Cynthia Moran, Shirley Cambell and Dan Cambell.
* A quarter-page ad in the Madison County Record mentioned a "Going out of Business" sale at Thomas Town-House Furniture on Highway 20 – next to A&A Barbeque.
* Mrs. Jacqueline Motley was installed as Worthy Matron and John D. Mason was installed as the Worthy Patron of Madison Chapter O.E.S. No. 283 at the 15th installation of officers. The installation was held at the Lunar Lodge Hall in Madison.
* The Madison County Commission, operating through the Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments received a federal grant to prepare a five-year recreation plan for rural Madison County. The first round of federal funding is expected in October.
* Who shot J.R. Ewing on the hit prime-time television show Dallas was on the minds of many. Viewers would have to wait through the summer to find out who shot him in the upcoming fall season. The episode would become one of the most watched in television history.
* Clean-up efforts continue in Washington state following the May 18 eruption of Mt. St. Helens.
